From A to Z (Zee) | ||
|
Bit of a cheat, the Zee rather than Zed but the forced American pronunciation allows the rhyme. Going to the venue of the White Horse Beano by bike from nearby Didcot includes a bridge over the busy A34, a motorway in all but name. The farm on one side is called Zulu Farm. The village on the other side is Harwell, home of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment and many of the country's first atomic reactors.
From atom farm to Zulu Farm, just a few hundred yards in the country From ancient fields of wheat and barley, to apple orchards where hidden scientists weave nuclei Across the A34, a snake of metal and tarmac at odds to the road I follow An ancient ridgeway path, into the Vale of the White Horse From A to Zee, just a short journey for me.
